At the end of the post, we have a downloadable ready-to-use<strong> eBay Photo Template<\/strong> you can use with Pixlr Editor, our free layers-based graphic design app to make your product images.<\/p>\n<h3>What does eBay have to say<\/h3>\n<p>The first place to start is always with the rules, as the\u00a0last thing you want as a seller is to violate eBay\u2019s terms of service and\u00a0get your store removed from the site. <a href=\"http:\/\/pages.ebay.com\/sellerinformation\/how-to-take-product-photos\/ebay-photo-requirements.html\">eBay says listings<\/a>\u00a0with high-quality\u00a0pictures are 5 percent more likely to sell. Here&#8217;s a quick summary of their\u00a0photography rules:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Image required: <\/strong>All\u00a0listings must have at least one picture. The site used to allow image-less\u00a0listings, but this has since changed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minimum sizing:<\/strong> All pictures must have a minimum\u00a0of 500 pixels, but 1600 pixels is recommended for high-quality images.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No borders:<\/strong> Borders are not permitted. There are some exceptions if your image has\u00a0a natural border or your product creates one, but it&#8217;s best to stay on\u00a0the safe side with this one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Watermarks allowed:<\/strong> Watermarks are allowed to brand your business,\u00a0but not to add additional information, and it must not obscure the picture\u00a0of the item you\u2019re selling.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No text:<\/strong> Text on pictures is no longer allowed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Limited stock\u00a0photos:<\/strong> Stock\u00a0photos are no longer allowed as the <em>primary<\/em> image for your listing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>File formats:<\/strong> Upload\u00a0pictures as a .jpeg file or.png file for best results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While these requirements\u00a0are the most up-to-date, eBay is constantly changing their requirements\u00a0to create the best end result for the buyer, so make sure you stay up to\u00a0date with any further changes.<\/p>\n<h3>Lighting matters<\/h3>\n<p>Now that we know the\u00a0rules, let\u2019s take a look at how you can enhance your photos:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first\u00a0thing that can make a difference in your pictures\u00a0is the use of lighting. Typically, natural light is the best way to showcase\u00a0your product. Finding a place in your home where natural light hits a white\u00a0wall means you can feature your product in the best lighting and without\u00a0any distracting backgrounds. It\u2019s also good for smaller items where a flash\u00a0can distort the image or cause unwanted blurriness.<\/li>\n<li>Natural light is typically\u00a0best in the early morning or late afternoon. Avoid shooting around noon\u00a0as this is when the sun is at its harshest and will cause your products\u00a0to look unnatural.<\/li>\n<li>There are some instances when a flash can be handy,\u00a0but they also can cause shadows or reflections. Try to avoid using the\u00a0flash whenever possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Focusing (and fixing out of focus images)<\/h3>\n<p>Focus is another technique that\u00a0all sellers should try to master.
