She\u2019s made videos for us in the past that share\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/114392094\">her own special recipes<\/a>\u00a0for creating unique looks using effects and filters, and she\u2019s made\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/122147905\">a new video<\/a>\u00a0that shows you something you may not thought of before: using Pixlr Desktop\u2019s masking tools to create sources of artificial light.<br \/>\nIf you\u2019re a Pixlr Pro member, this is a great way to add a light source to a photo where one simply didn\u2019t exist before. It utilizes the Gradient Selection Tools to layer on effects across a gradient. Basically, you lay down a mask and apply effects that blend strongly or softly across a spectrum. Those effects can be crazy overlays or they can be as simple as adjusting the\u00a0\u201clightness\u201d across the mask.<br \/>\nNotice that you can do this not just with lightness but with any effect. For example, here we\u2019ve applied a canvas overlay to this grape photo. The effect starts at the endpoint of the linear gradient mask and lessens across the spectrum:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.pixlr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tumblr_inline_nmibzzYGun1rmon24_500.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-509\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.pixlr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tumblr_inline_nmibzzYGun1rmon24_500.png\" alt=\"tumblr_inline_nmibzzYGun1rmon24_500\" width=\"500\" height=\"398\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWe did something similar here with one of the vintage Effects. We like the golden-but-faded hues from the Kevin vintage effect, and we can actually use that as something of a light source if we want:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.pixlr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tumblr_inline_nmic5riSKx1rmon24_500.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-508\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.pixlr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tumblr_inline_nmic5riSKx1rmon24_500.png\" alt=\"tumblr_inline_nmic5riSKx1rmon24_500\" width=\"500\" height=\"313\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIf you\u2019ve never thought of masks in this way, give this technique a try.
